Holiday Horror

Hello! I’m so excited for this exchange — I absolutely adore both the holidays, and horror! Most of my prompts are explicitly-horror, and less about any of the holidays or winter, but please, please feel free to include wintery or holiday-relevant things if you would like to, I just couldn’t think of any good wintery prompts while writing this letter.

My prompts are just suggestions — feel free to take anything from my general likes, my horror likes (which includes a lot of prompt-y things) or prompts from a past letter (though this is the first time I’m requesting all of these canons!), as long as nothing hits my DNWs. Thanks!

Horror Likes

I’m a big fan of the canon-style horror of all my requested canons, but I also like a lot of other horror! If you wanted to twist them in a different direction, have any requested ships or characters face a new threat, or just play around with the conventions already in the horror, here’s a list I compiled for Multifandom Horror, plus some minuses and additions, which may help! But it’s definitely non-exhaustive!

Also! I am more than happy to see any of my ships (or one half of a ship) or characters perish! In fact, I often revel in a little bit of tragedy or characters trying so damn hard to fix something…and failing miserably. But having them surmount bad odds or just having fun PWP or post-canon shenanigans are also more than good with me. Just putting this out here in case you were tempted :D

- Haunted houses
- Weird towns where things are Not Right/townsfolk turning on the protagonists/insular towns with uncomfortable and sometimes violent beliefs
- Came back wrong
- Body swaps, dopplegangers, reanimation/necromancy

Ready or Not

Fuck, this movie rocks. I am extremely late to the game but I am absolutely obsessed! It’s both funny and smart, while also being just the most fun and not taking itself too seriously. Plus! It gets right to the punch which I appreciate. I love pretty much all of the characters and would happily roll around in any fic about them.

But I do also have specific prompts for each of the pairings and characters I’ve requested! However, I’m extremely open to canon-style romps, PWP or anything along those lines, too.

Grace/Charity, Charity/Daniel, Charity, Charity/Daniel/Grace
Charity gives me the vibes of the elite rich girl who is a total snob and I pretty much cannot fail to fall for that kind of character. But I am so intrigued by her character — what is the backstory that is worse than hunting people to sacrifice them? And…well, actually, let me save some of my blathering for prompts!

I talk about why I love Daniel & Grace below, so I’ll save that for now!

- One member of the family is required to fuck the bride, Grace in this instance, before she’s sacrificed. Normally, this would be the groom’s responsibility, but with Alex still incapacitated upstairs, Charity takes it upon herself when the rest of the family seem uncomfortable with it. (And maybe gets Daniel to join in/eggs Daniel on to take his turn.)
- Grace attempts to convince Charity to help her, and Charity is willing to see how far she will go before she turns her in.
- Like I said, I’d love to see what Charity grew up in, why it was so much worse than this. I would love something in her backstory that also brushes against the supernatural, similar to the La Domas’.
- Daniel says Charity didn’t blink an eye when he told her about the games. I would like to know if that was actually true, and what was going on in her head on their wedding night.
- AU where Charity is the one to pull a Hide or Seek card.
- Even those who do not play Hide or Seek are still required to sacrifice something to Mr. Le Bail, and it must be something that matters greatly to them. What does Charity sacrifice?
- Similar to the above, but Mr. Le Bail requires sexual favours. Could be him taking corporeal form — or maybe he possesses Daniel’s body to get the job done, much to Daniel’s chagrin. (Also, references to Fitch having had to fuck Mr. Le Bail and what that was like would be very fun. I imagine he would not enjoy it one bit.)
- If you think what they do at weddings is bad, you should see their ritual for funerals…
- …and Christmas (and/or Halloween or New Year) is another traditional altogether.
- Classic time loops, this time with extra Charity :D

Grace, Grace/Daniel
See above for how much I like her arc! Her seeing herself for the first time, wedding dress torn, bullets slung across her chest…yes, very good. Also good? The animal noises she makes at the end when they wonder what to do with her, now dawn has struck.

And I freaking love Daniel going from apathetic, to someone who actually takes action against his family, especially the moment in the barn when he realises how sick his family is. But, at the same time, he’s clearly unwilling to actually kill them — he’s not like them. Like many, I feel hard for this pairing!

Also, very open to any hints of past Alex/Daniel (or Emilie/Daniel, or Alex/Emilie/Daniel) or for current Alex/Daniel/Grace. I just didn’t have any specific prompts for those pairings!

- Soulbonds or first word soulmates, especially anything that makes it low-key a bit horrifying. But them just realising when they first meet that they are soulmates, or soul bonding after one of the horrific parts of the wedding night, would be grand.
- Outsider POVs from therapists or newspapers or blogs that log conspiracy theories about the events in the movie etc.…I am up for pretty much anything! Grace doesn’t need to be heavily featured for this, but I would like to know how she’s doing or people’s thoughts on her involvement via forum posts etc.
- Mr. Le Bail isn’t done with her, not yet. Maybe he himself comes after her, wanting her blood, or perhaps he restores one of the characters to find her and bring him to her. I wouldn’t mind some obsession here, either, on Mr. Le Bail’s part.
- Or, perhaps, he’s impressed with her and wants to offer her a deal of his own. What could he offer that would actually tempt her? Or is there nothing he has that she wouldn’t throw back in his face once she realised who he was.
- Grace has had enough, and starts to kill the remaining members of Le Dommas clan when it turns out they won’t die at dawn. Daniel tries to stop her.
- I love her bloodied and beaten, and I would love to know how this experience has altered the fabric of her softer and gentler folds. How does she go back to normal life after this? Epistolary or found documents about her might work nicely too for this? I’m fine with Daniel living or dying in this case.
- I want to see her beat the shit out of Alex more! Maybe she ends up being the one who kills him. Maybe he somehow survives. Maybe he comes back as a ghost or possesses someone. I just want to see him get his just desserts, because I love those kind of weasely characters, and I love even more seeing their cowardice repaid.
- Haunted by Daniel’s ghost! Sexy or horrifying, either is good with me. Or some Came Back Wrong goodness!

The Beetle - Richard Marsh

This is such a wild book and one I am thoroughly a fan of.

I like a lot of things: Atherton is so OTT and obviously in love with Lessingham; he’s also working on some kind of death gas which is mostly uncommented upon which WHAT; Dora Grayling is most excellent a character; the genderfuckery of "the Arab"/the Beetle; hypnosis and paralysis of their victims, and cults! I’ll be referring to "the Arab" as they, but I don’t mind what pronouns you pick for them.

I’m not fussy about historical (or geographical) accuracy, so please don’t worry too much about that unless it’s something you enjoy working on!

I’ve requested a few ships, but would be open to pretty much any combos that isn’t requited!Atherton/Lindon or requited!Atherton/Grayling, unless it’s an OT3 situation.

- Take the scenes we get in Egypt, with Lessingham and "the Arab", and make it into proper smut goodness :D If Isis herself wants to get involved, I am all for it.
- AU where Atherton is convinced to join the Beetle to help them bring down Lessingham. What havoc do they wreak with Atherton’s terrifying experiments?
- Sydney, faced with an impossible choice of saving either Lessingham or Lindon from the Beetle…chooses Lessingham, to the surprise of even himself.
- Lindon realizes she doesn’t want Atherton or Lessignham — because she wants Grayling. Maybe it starts after the Beetle paralyses them both, or forces them into the situation, but they realise they enjoy it?
- Lindon or Grayling (or both!) get seduced to the side of the cult of Isis. Are they able to get to Lessingham easier from their position? When does he realise what’s happening? Are they able to succeed in capturing him? Do they torture him? I’d be up for some Lindon/Grayling nonconning Lessingham here too (or consensual-turning-into-nonconning)! Especially if either of them have learnt how to paralysis people like the Beetle can…
- More backstory on the cult of Isis! Is it really their Temple that explodes, or is it an elaborate ruse? Who is their next target? Anyone haunting or coming after any of my requested characters or ships post-canon would be lovely too!
- More on Atherton’s terrifying experiments! What is the intended use-case? Is he doing anything Frankenstein-y back there?
- I would be up for some potential crossovers with Doctor Who (especially Nine!).

Wylding Hall

I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this novella! It had the perfect level of spooks for me, and that good good creeping dread. Plus, I can never much resist a haunted house, especially when there are barrows and dead birds involved~ The ending was particularly good, with the photograph.

I nominated the band members: I’d be happy for any exploration of their years since and I’m also open to any pairing combos. Them finding ill-advised comfort in each other could be fun? But, as my OC and worldbuilding tags (and some of my prompts!) imply, I’m more than happy for them to be done away with altogether.

- A close knit group of fans of Windhollow Faire visit Wylding Hall years after the incident…and perhaps discover something there too? Maybe history repeats itself, maybe the meet the girl together, maybe they discover something about Julian there, maybe they see Julian himself. Open to a lot of stuff!
- For worldbuilding, I would love any more details about the house, how it came to be haunted, about the girl, the barrow etc. Etc. Has it happened ever in the past? What was the first incident?
- Found "footage"/documents or anything like that that concerned Wylding Hall would be very cool.
- Years since Wylding Hall, one or more of the band members turns up dead.
- More info on the villagers’ attitudes towards Wylding Hall and everything that goes on there would be fun.
- On the next anniversary, some of the band members return to Wylding Hall for ~reasons. See my fans prompts for things that might happen!
- One of them is visited by Julian, or so they insist. Might be room to go with some Came Back Wrong tropes? Or the band member feeling like they’re going mad.
- Any of the incidents, from the perspective of Julian and how he felt about it, would be great. I’d especially like it if it shows the unreliability of some of the band members’ accounts.
- They try to do a reunion tour but come across an even more terrifying horror.
