My reading slowed down significantly in May, mostly due to being pretty damn sick for a week and a half. But I still read more than usual, and enjoyed what I got to! Here is way too many thoughts about them ^_^

11 books is still pretty good and hopefully I can keep that momentum up through June, even though it'll be a busy month for me.

I’m back on my reading bullshit thanks to a Readathon this month. My stats for April were 22 books, coming to around 1,500 pages and 100+ hours of audio.

I will almost certainly slow down my reading a bit in May, although I have some horror middle grade on deck since it’s halfway to Halloween and there’s nothing I like better than themed reading! Gonna try and update during the month so it isn’t this ridiculously long post where I ramble about books in the future ^_^;

Where the actual fuck is this year going?! Not sure, but apparently my dedication to updating my journal more often really failed me. Let’s try that again, this time with some writing stats, although I’m yanno, fashionably late with it.

Fanfiction

Words published: 8,112
That might be a new low since 2019. I had a bit of dip over winter, although I’m getting back into fanfic at the moment. I’m also not counting my FFFX fic, because while I did heavy rewrites this quarter, I wrote the first draft last year and I don’t want to try to calculate that.

Fandoms: 5 — Dimension 20, The Folk of the Air, Stardew Valley, Yellowjackets*, One of Us is Lying*
* Indicates it’s a new-to-me fandom. Yellowjackets is my new obsession. The One of Us is Lying fic was super fun for two reasons: firstly, it’s the first non-exchange fic I’ve put out there since July 2020 (oh dear god). Secondly, because it’s the first time in ages I’ve watched something, immediately had an idea because of a single scene and had the feeling that I must write it, right now.

WIPs Word Count: 787
This doesn’t include a ton of drafts I started but didn’t finish, only things I’m actively working on right now. All 700ish words are one fic that’s extremely self-indulgent and I’m still working through the embarrassment but, uh, it’s fun. I just stalled out when I realised I’m in the wrong POV and haven’t got around to switching yet. Next quarter!

It’s low, but I’m okay with it. I burnt out a little on fanfic and needed some time to lay off of it. Which brings me to my next section…

Original Fic

Yay, I’m finally back to working on original stuff! It’s been way too long. This quarter has been kind of amazing, especially given it’s been a horrendously stressful few months at work as we close out some projects.

Really successful quarter for origfic! I even started getting a bunch of new ideas again, which kind of hasn’t happened since early 2020. A relief to know my brain still works in that direction.

Next Quarter Goals

- FF: I’m extremely late on some auction fic, and only realised that this week, so I need to sort that out!
- FF: Finish WIP mentioned
- FF: Weekly Dick or Treat entries
- OF: Continue work on the novel

My May & June are set to be pretty busy, so I think these are going to be my main goals.

 Thank you to my authors for their patience. I have now had a chance to read all my gifts, which were all so so good. Damn. I am lucky.

Though my personal life remains rocky, it's markedly less turbulent so I'm hoping I will be able to squirrel out time going forward to do what I love, which is reading fic! But, just, apologies in advance if I drop any balls.

Feel free to let me know, also, if I miss a gift or anything over the next month or so as I try to get some life things settled, because I will never purposefully not comment on a gift.
