Where the actual fuck is this year going?! Not sure, but apparently my dedication to updating my journal more often really failed me. Let’s try that again, this time with some writing stats, although I’m yanno, fashionably late with it.

Fanfiction

Words published: 8,112
That might be a new low since 2019. I had a bit of dip over winter, although I’m getting back into fanfic at the moment. I’m also not counting my FFFX fic, because while I did heavy rewrites this quarter, I wrote the first draft last year and I don’t want to try to calculate that.

Fandoms: 5 — Dimension 20, The Folk of the Air, Stardew Valley, Yellowjackets*, One of Us is Lying*
* Indicates it’s a new-to-me fandom. Yellowjackets is my new obsession. The One of Us is Lying fic was super fun for two reasons: firstly, it’s the first non-exchange fic I’ve put out there since July 2020 (oh dear god). Secondly, because it’s the first time in ages I’ve watched something, immediately had an idea because of a single scene and had the feeling that I must write it, right now.

This doesn’t include a ton of drafts I started but didn’t finish, only things I’m actively working on right now. All 700ish words are one fic that’s extremely self-indulgent and I’m still working through the embarrassment but, uh, it’s fun. I just stalled out when I realised I’m in the wrong POV and haven’t got around to switching yet. Next quarter!

It’s low, but I’m okay with it. I burnt out a little on fanfic and needed some time to lay off of it. Which brings me to my next section…

Original Fic

Words Written: 15,240
Yay, I’m finally back to working on original stuff! It’s been way too long. This quarter has been kind of amazing, especially given it’s been a horrendously stressful few months at work as we close out some projects.

Overview:
- Finished a draft of my novella! After dragging my feet! For three years! :DDD It is the majority of my quarterly word count (12,632 of it) and I just feel such a huge relief to not have it hanging over my head anymore. It still needs a ton of work in the next draft but I’m weirdly pleased with it?
- Wrote a flash fiction piece. Again, I’m pretty pleased with it? What’s happening where I actually like my output these days?!
- Not accounted for in my wordcount, I did a little work on the ol’ novel. Mostly working out themes, doing some world building, and thinking a lot about it.

Really successful quarter for origfic! I even started getting a bunch of new ideas again, which kind of hasn’t happened since early 2020. A relief to know my brain still works in that direction.

Next Quarter Goals

- FF: I’m extremely late on some auction fic, and only realised that this week, so I need to sort that out!
- FF: Finish WIP mentioned
- FF: Weekly Dick or Treat entries
- OF: Continue work on the novel

My May & June are set to be pretty busy, so I think these are going to be my main goals.
